Prompt: What is your favorite phrase, quote, or idiom in English? Write about how you found out about it and why it’s your favorite.
Human growth is like climbing a mountain, every step you take will make the views more spectacular. Just like the phrase my father told me before, “The higher you get,the more amazed by the view.”It was a cold winter, my father and I went to climb Mount Tai. When we were at the bottom of the mountain, there was a big crowd of people, which made the air very stuffy. As we went higher, the fewer people we met, the more furious the wind become. There was thick snow on the ground and trees, the ground was littered with branches, dry grass, and withered leaves. Everything seemed so quiet and dreary. I can’t remember how much time we climbed, without any word, just climbing silently and watching the similar scene. The period was boring and long, I didn’t know when I would reach the top of the mountain, just like we don’t know which way to success and how long it would take in life. Many times, when I saw the similar snow-covered landscape, I really wondered why I spent so much time climbing the mountain, is the landscape on the top so deserving? However, after 4 hours, with the most exhausting feeling, we finally reached the top. After I climbed the last flight of the stairs, I raised my head and was amazed by the beautiful scenery before my eyes. At that moment, everything stopped. I couldn’t hear the bustling crowd or the cold wind, I couldn’t feel the cold on any inch of skin. The sunlight shines on my whole world, wreaths of smoke spiral upwards, and the mountains in the distance were covered with the color of the sunset. “ It’s so beautiful, isn’t it?” My father said with a smile on his face, “ We saw a lot of scenery on the way, but the scenery on the top is the most beautiful one. The higher you get,the more amazed by the view.” That’s how I know this phrase and this phrase has inspired me for many years. When I am vast and hazy, it can always keep me moving forward. Today, many years after I climbed Mount tai, this phrase, together with the scenery I saw, always comes to my mind. This phrase has become my favorite one because this is the conclusion of my personal experience. What you have experienced is more profound than what others have told you.
