It is very likely that you came on this page thinking Huh? Golf isn’t a sport, but I’m pretty sure I can change that. Here are some reasons why.

  1. In high school, we have sports like tennis and football. In tennis, you just shuffle your feet within one specific area. For football, you are basically running back and forth within the box on the field. Even though we may not be actively running, we are actively walking. Technically, you can run on the course while playing golf, but that’s not exactly proper and definitely not allowed on the green
  2. You could also argue that we have golf carts on course. But, golf teams are required to walk the course because most high schoolers don’t have their driver’s license and tournaments don’t allow carts for their players (unless it is necessary). Furthermore, even PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association) players, which are like NFL (National Football League) players, don’t use golf carts because they believe walking is an integral part of the game.
  3. Golf can also be part of a team. Yes, you could argue that it’s an individual sport because you technically are the only person that determines your score. Although, I could also counter that there is still a swim team even though that’s also an individual sport.

Lastly, golf demands physical exertion and muscle use. Not only are we walking throughout the course, but the rotation it takes to hit a ball must be quick and precise for further and better shots. Often, this rotation can also lead to a number of injuries, such as your lower back, shoulder irritation, and wrist sprain.
