When I was in elementary school, I grew up thinking reading was cool because I looked up to my older sister a lot, but I did not enjoy reading at all. So, when I say this is a good series, it’ll truly make you want to read. Chris Colfer, the author of this series, has also released similar novels within the fantasy and fiction genre. Thus, if you enjoy this series, as I hope you would, Colfer has recently released a new series called A Tale of Magic so make sure you check that out as well.

The Land of Stories is centered around the twins, Alex and Conner, and their journey as they discover that a cherished book of theirs could lead them into a world of (what they thought was) fantasy. Stories about the Evil Witch, Queen of Hearts, Goldilocks, Fairy Godmother, etc. are all included in this foreign world. Except, their journey wasn’t all that pleasant. Numerous times, they encountered near-death experiences if it wasn’t for some companions, such as Goldilocks, Jack, Red Riding Hood, and Fairy Godmother.

A timeline of the Land of Stories books divided into the Fairy-Tale World and Otherworld

Growing up, Alex and Conner lost their father when they were very young. But besides his personality, their father’s background was pretty much unknown. This leads them through crazy adventures and disputes with evil villains, along with impeccable cliffhangers that make you sit at the edge of your seat in a rush to find the next novel in the series.

If you’re interested in mystery novels and fairy tales, taken to a new level, I strongly suggest trying the first novel of the series. Oftentimes, the first of any series is considered better than the rest, but, in my opinion, they’re all amazing at grasping the reader’s attention. They also show a new perspective of the fairytales we remember today and give villains leeway and understanding for their actions. All things considered, these books are a wonderful way to learn something new and take a break from our busy lives once in a while.
