I asked my little sister, Malina, about Santa Claus. She is 8 years old. Santa Claus is also known as Papa Noel, Saint Nick, and Father Christmas in other countries.
Me: Tell me what you know about Santa Claus.
Malina: On Christmas Eve, in the middle of the night, he gets his sleigh ready and his reindeer fly the sleigh to different houses and he slides down the chimney and gives kids presents, whether they’re naughty or nice. If they’re naughty, they get coal in their stocking. But if they’re nice, they get presents.
Me: How does Santa get all that done in one night?
Malina: His reindeer have special powers so they can fly super fast.
Me: Tell me about Santa’s home and family.
Malina: He lives in the North Pole with his wife, Mrs. Claus. All the elves live in the North Pole too.
Me: What are the elves like?
Malina: They make toys, have pointy ears, and they’re fun.
Me: How does Santa decide what to bring to kids?
Malina: He kind of knows what they’re like, so he knows what they want. And also kids write letters to him so they can tell him what they want.
Me: Do you write letters to him?
Malina: Sometimes I do. Sometimes I leave the letters with cookies and carrots.
Me: What’s one thing Santa has brought to you?
Malina: A Barbie dreamhouse.
Me: What’s your favorite thing about Santa?
Malina: He’s very nice, and he lives in a cool place.
Me: Anything else you want to say about Santa?
Malina: Nope!
